Fees are scoped before the work starts.

DRG Law writes the structure, the scope, and the fee into the engagement letter before any work begins. Repeatable matters carry a fixed fee. Matters that resist a fixed structure carry a fee range with weekly reporting. No matter starts without the cost confirmed in writing at intake.

How fees work, by area

Each area uses the fee structure that matches the matter type.

01Business Law

Repeatable matters (incorporations, share transfers, shareholder agreements, corporate cleanups) carry a fixed fee against a written scope. Matters that resist a fixed structure (M&A, complex restructures, multi-party negotiations) carry a fee range against the same scope, with weekly reporting. Specific figures are confirmed at intake.

B
02Real Estate

Residential purchases, sales, and refinancings carry a fixed per-transaction fee that names disbursements, title insurance, and registration costs separately. Commercial transactions are quoted per matter against the deal's complexity. Specific figures are confirmed at intake.

R
03Wills & estates

Wills, powers of attorney, and trust setup carry a fixed fee against a written scope. Estate administration is quoted per matter. The succession question behind the will is named in the scope before the document is drafted.

W
04Employment Law

Employment matters are quoted per file against a written scope: severance review, contract review and drafting, wrongful dismissal response. No fixed schedule applies because the Bardal factors, the contract language, and the employer's position all change the scope. The cost is confirmed in writing before work begins.

E
05Ongoing counsel

Three services bundled under one hub: a monthly retainer that covers a defined block of hours with a reduced rate above the cap; contract review at a fixed fee per document type and length, returned with a marked-up copy and a short memo; and an annual records subscription that keeps annual resolutions, filings, and the minute book current between deals. Each is quoted and confirmed in writing before the work starts.

O
06Notary and Sworn Statements

Fixed fee per document type, by appointment. Affidavits, statutory declarations, certified copies, and signatures bound for use inside or outside Ontario. Specific figures are confirmed at intake.

How DRG Law charges

Four operating rules that apply across every area.

01Scope before fee

Every matter starts with a written scope. The fee is confirmed against that scope, not against an open hourly clock with no ceiling. The owner reads the scope before signing the engagement letter.

02Fixed fee where possible

Where the work is repeatable (incorporations, share transfers, residential closings, contract reviews, notarisation), DRG Law quotes a fixed fee. The owner knows the number before the work starts.

03Fee range where appropriate

Where the work resists a fixed structure (M&A, complex restructures, multi-party negotiations), DRG Law quotes a fee range against the written scope and reports against it weekly. The range is set before the work starts and any change is confirmed in writing.

04Conflict and fit screen first

The fee conversation happens after the conflict check and after Damaris confirms DRG Law can act. No commitment is made and no fee is quoted before that screen completes.

Next step

Send the matter for a written cost estimate.

Damaris confirms the structure, the scope, and the cost in the engagement letter before any work begins. Specific figures are confirmed at intake against the matter actually in front of the firm.
